Go whale watching and scuba diving with the pros on a Hawaiian adventure

Montage Kapalua Bay, an intimate resort atop 24 acres overlooking scenic Kapalua Bay in Maui, wants to help its guests plan an island adventure they will never forget. By Stacey Leasca

The resort recently announced its partnership with Adventure IO, a platform connecting travelers with exclusive experiences led by professional athletes and local experts.

Here’s why this Hawaiian adventure should be on your to-do list

“This partnership is great for travelers because it gives them easy access to the highest quality adventures and vacations,” said Jeff McKee, co-founder of Adventure IO. Travel + Leisure. “Guests of Montage Kapalua Bay can truly relax knowing that when they decide to leave the property, it will be time extremely well spent.”

According to McKee, these experiences are anything but cookie-cutter. “[Our] adventures are known for their mind-blowing effect and usually leave the family asking mom or dad, ‘Wow, how did you do that?’ »

Adventure IO experiences at Montage Kapalua Bay include a host of options, but perhaps the coolest is its Sail from Maui to Lanai experience, which offers guests the chance to board a fully-equipped 51-foot yacht and luxuriously appointed.

The nine-hour trip aboard the boat (which starts at $17,500) is perhaps best experienced between December and March, when it takes guests to the ‘Au’au Channel, home to the highest concentrations of whales in Pacific bump in all the Hawaiian Islands. .

“Officially, whale season in Hawaii runs from December 15 to May 15, although the first whale of the season is usually spotted in early October,” explains Hawaii.com. “In the week after Thanksgiving, it’s common to find whales off Maui or Lanai as they breach and leap out of the water.”

And guests should have no trouble spotting ocean creatures, especially since Pacific humpback whales are the fifth largest whale species on the planet, Hawaii Ocean Project noted, and can reach up to 60 feet long and weigh up to 40 tons.

The yacht is fully equipped with all the amenities guests would need to enjoy the experience, including paddle boards, snorkel gear and snorkel kits. All guests need to do is pack a camera to capture every moment.

Then, upon arrival at Lanai, onboard guests can explore the rugged coastline of the South and West Shores by lazing on the ship’s deck or jumping into the water for a speedy paddleboard with World Champion Connor Baxter as their guide. Those wishing to go even deeper can dive below the surface with the certified scuba instructor on board.

“Guests can expect to be treated like real family,” McKee said. “Our guides are known for going the extra mile to make AIO Adventures one of a kind so that guests not only leave the island with great experiences, but with new friends – who happen to be among men and women the most accomplished. in the world.”

And, just in case adventure wasn’t enough, resort guests can also book kiteboarding with the “King of Air” experience, a half-day kitesurfing excursion with professional kitesurfer Jesse Richman; schedule a private paddleboard session with Baxter; or hop aboard the yacht for a quicker four-hour whale-watching excursion to get straight to the point.
