Pine Island Elementary School has two beloved staff members retiring at the end of the school year.
Claudia Swenson started at PIE 24 years ago under the management of Tommy Thompson. For the past 24 years, Swenson has graced the halls of PIE with his positive, lively energy that shines through every day. Swenson is an integral part of our school community. She has worked at all school levels supporting many teachers throughout her tenure at PIE. She was supportive in all areas and had two generations of family through PIE.
Ms Manguson, a teacher at PIE, says Ms Swenson “is the icing on the cake in the way he works with students. She is irreplaceable. Principal Millins says Swenson is an exceptional staff member, educator and person and says she will be truly missed by all involved.
Gloria Van Duzer has also been a key part of PIE over the past decade. Over these 10 years she has taught art, music and STEAM, creating an exceptional program with everyone. Van Duzer has been integral to the success of PIE and her habit of going above and beyond in everything she does will be missed.
Principal Millins says Van Duzer is the first to arrive in the morning and the last to leave in the evening. He said she was the hardest working person he had ever worked with. She’s kind, smart, creative, and a great human being.
PIE coach Jeffrey Nelson says Ms Van Duzer “is one of those people you can count on for just about anything. She was always there for us, for whatever we needed. To say she will be missed is an understatement, but we are delighted for her and wish her the best.
Please join PIE students and staff in wishing them the best of luck in their retirement!
