The Pine Island Pantry at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church is now open Mondays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Everyone is invited to stop by. ID is not required.

Pine Island’s full pantry will reopen on December 5, with an expanded selection of cold foods available in addition to Christmas meals.

To prepare Christmas meals, longtime Pine Island Food Pantry supporter Winn-Dixie has teamed up with the organization to prepare $15 bags of non-perishable fixings that can be purchased at the store by those who can and want to support the program. Meal bags can then be placed in the Food Pantry bin at the front of the store for collection.

Winn-Dixie also graciously donated 100 bags to the program as part of its ongoing support of the community so heavily impacted by Hurricane Ian.

For Thanksgiving meals, thanks to a generous grant from Greater Pine Island Elks Lodge No. 2781, this year the Pine Island Food Pantry will support the free Thanksgiving Community Dinner scheduled at Moose Lodge on Saturday, November 26. Everyone is encouraged to participate.

Christmas meals will be available in the pantry starting December 5. Each registered family will be able to purchase Christmas dishes and a Winn-Dixie gift card to make their own selection of meat in store. The fixing amounts will be distributed by family size. Regular pantry hours will be 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. Guests must be registered and show proof of island address. New customers are welcome.

The next two Community Co-op Mobile Food Pantries on the island will be Friday, Nov. 18 and Friday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Pine Island United Methodist Church parking lot and generally distribute holiday food. ID is required.

The Food Pantry, which is a 501c3 non-profit organization, serves Pine Island and the greater Matlacha area and is operated by all-volunteer staff. Its purpose is to ensure “no one is hungry” on the island. The pantry is beholden to all of its partners to ensure that food is available for all. Visit pineislandfoodpantry.org to learn more.
